Like many, everything I know about Tuva I owe to
Feynman and Leighton. They have started a cottage industry dealing
with things Tuvan!
Send a friend an electronic postcard from
Tuva! Complete with an example of Tuvan music!
"Tuva
or Bust! Richard Feynman's Last Journey." by Leighton.
This book tells the story of the great Feynman-Tuva adventure, but
from Leighton's viewpoint. It is a must for anyone caught in Feynman-mania,
or at least interested in more than the short vignettes given in the
other Feynman books.
"Tuva:
Voices From The Center Of Asia" This CD gives a sample of Tuvan khoomei. It is a compilation of
33 short (the longest is under 3 minutes) examples of Tuvan overtone
or throat singing as well as instrumentation. Check out the Real Audio
samples! It is part of the Smithsonian-Folkways collection. Not for
everyone, but I had to have it!
After you explore some of the offerings here,
you might wish to check out the Friends of Tuva website.
"Back
TUVA Future" OK, so you thought that I was the
only one to make a connection between DeLoreans and Tuvan
throat singing! Guess again! Listen to a few samples, courtesy
of amazon.com. By the way, that's a Tuvan stamp on the cover!
