Agent technology from Microsoft® is not only fun, but helps us interact
with computers. This book will help you understand why!
"The
Media Equation: How People Treat Computers, Television,
and New Media Like Real People and Places" by
Reeves & Nass. My wife was fortunate enough to hear Nass speak at a
convention she attended and she brought back a tape of that talk. His
thesis in that talk, and in this book, is that we all subconsciously
relate to the new media just as we relate to a fellow human! He quotes
many experimental examples to substantiate his thesis. Everyone
who does any programming for the Web, or any computer-human interface,
should read this book! Although Nass makes the point that human-like
appearance is not needed, Microsoft's Agent technology certainly helps
feed our subconscious!
"Microsoft FrontPage Version
2003 Step by Step" by
Online Training Solutions. This book and CD is published by
Microsoft Press and is a good introduction for the novice. If you're
new to creating web pages and need a tutorial, this may be the book
for you. FrontPage 2003 itself must be purchased separately.
