This is a little bit of
what I experienced at St. Paul's Chapel in May of 2002.
"Light at Ground Zero: St. Paul's Chapel After 9/11"
Photos by Krystyna Sanderson..
By Eastertime of 2002 the 'recovery' phase at Ground Zero was
over. It was more of a clean up operation by that time. A
group from my local
church volunteered for a 12 hour shift at St. Paul's
Chapel, adjacent to Ground Zero. Since Sept 11, St. Paul's had
been ministering to the workers at the site, providing food,
solace, a foot or back massage, a place to pray or a place to
sleep -- what ever was needed.
In May, 2002, I, along with
others from St.
David's, spent 12 hours doing what was needed
-- handing out Dr. Scholl's foot pads, retrieving supplies
from the choir loft where they were stored, or trying to keep
passers-by from taking photos. Many of the workers definitely
did not want their pictures taken.
This book is a collection of eight months
of authorized photos taken by Sanderson - one of the few allowed
to photograph the otherwise unheralded happenings at St.
Paul's. It covers most of the history of the ministry at
St. Paul's and it is a touching chronicle.
