Dr. Bob's Bookshelf

Agent technology from Microsoft® is not only fun, but helps us interact with computers. This book will help you understand why!

"The Media Equation: How People Treat Computers, Television, and New Media Like Real People and Places" by Reeves & Nass.
My wife was fortunate enough to hear Nass speak at a convention she attended and she brought back a tape of that talk. His thesis in that talk, and in this book, is that we all subconsciously relate to the new media just as we relate to a fellow human! He quotes many experimental examples to substantiate his thesis.  Everyone who does any programming for the Web, or any computer-human interface, should read this book! Although Nass makes the point that human-like appearance is not needed, Microsoft's Agent technology certainly helps feed our subconscious!
